    The Technical Research Support Unit accomplishes the main part of the textural, structural and chemical characterization of the materials synthesized and tested by the researchers of the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleum Chemistry (CSIC). The multidisciplinary nature of the research, allows for a wide range of techniques commonly used in materials characterization: X-Ray diffraction, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), BET surface area and pore size distribution analysis by gas adsorption, Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) and Chemisorption. 
    The development of these techniques has allowed external applicants, such as private companies, universities and public research centers, to access to our services. 
    The Technical Research Support Unit is devoted to contribute both to the continuous growth in the research capacity and to the maximization of the impact of that research through knowledge transfer.
    Since January 2009 several of the characterization techniques employed in the Technical Research Support Unit have been certified under UNE-EN ISO 9001, granted by AENOR, and the IQNet certificate has been awarded.

    The creation of a General Service Support within any institution involves a high degree of responsibility since the beginning in response to a specific need, in order to accomplish the satisfaction and confidence of its customers. To achieve this goal the Technical Research Support Unit of the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleum Chemistry believes that the implementation of a Quality Management System is an essential tool to guide our work and to obtain the optimum performance.
    Following this strategy and through participation in the Infrastructure and Quality Management Program of the Madrid region and CSIC (Programa de Infraestructura y Gestión de la Calidad dentro del Contrato – Programa del CSIC y la Comunidad de Madrid, III y IV PRICIT) in January 2009 AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification) awarded the ISO 9001 certificate to the Technical Research Support Unit, which demonstrates that this Unit has implemented and maintains a Quality Management System which fulfills the requirements of the UNE-EN ISO 9001 standard for the development and realization of material analysis by means of Adsorption - Desorption Isotherms and X-Ray Polycrystalline Diffraction.

    In December 2012 and 2016, the Technical Research Research Support Unit has renewed and modified the Certification for the techniques: Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry and Ultraviolet-visible near infrared spectroscopy, respectively.


    The Technical Research Support Unit defines in its Quality Policy the overall objectives for quality and is committed to meeting all customer requirements; these requirements are not only technical (accuracy, precision, clarity, etc.) but also related to management (agility in performing the tests and in reporting results, customer service, etc.).
    The quality of our analytical services intends to add value to the results obtained; this is a distinguishing feature and a strategic advantage over other testing laboratories with similar characteristics.
