The study of sorbent materials having prominent textural properties gathers strength during last years due to their potential application for hydrogen storage. In this sense, the discovery of MOF materials has meant a qualitative leap in rational synthesis and control of physico-chemical properties with respect to conventional sorbent materials, allowing to apply experimental strategies of synthesis and postmodification processes according to their extraordinary chemical and structural versatility, the isomorphic substitution of metal ions forming their framework clusters or ionic exchange in some cases, consequently tailoring their final properties for enhancing their affinity for hydrogen or for extending their application to other fields.
