Method for production of maleic acid from renewable sources

Autores:Manuel López Granados
The Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry has developed a novel method for maleic acid synthesis from furfural, which, at the same time, can be obtained from lignocellulose or plant dry matter (biomass). The method uses a solid titanium silicate as catalyst for the oxidation of furfural with hydrogen peroxide; this solid can be re-used several times. Companies interested in applying this method at industrial scale for the manufacture of maleic acid, under a patent license, are sought.
